# AI 3D creation guide: models, worlds, materials, and animation

> Compare Mint workflows for text to 3D, image to 3D, editable models, asset packs, PBR textures, worlds, animation, and Blender integration.

**Access:** Public guide. Modeler preview creation requires approved beta access. API and MCP access for other services follows their current requirements.

Mint is an AI agent for creating and working with 3D Models, Worlds, and related assets. Start with the output you need: a downloadable object, a spatial environment, a coordinated set of objects, or surface textures. These outputs have different workflows and file types. Modeler is the current web interface. Other supported generation types are available through API and MCP workflows; the former Spatial Chat, Studio, and room editor interfaces are retired.

## Which 3D workflow should you choose?

| You need | Start here | What to expect |
| - | - | - |
| An object from a description | [Text to 3D](https://docs.mint.gg/guides/text-to-3d.md) | A generated 3D Model with a downloadable GLB when ready |
| An object based on a photo | [Image to 3D](https://docs.mint.gg/guides/image-to-3d.md) | A generated model guided by the visible subject |
| A static model you can revise | [Modeler](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/modeler.md) | A static GLB, reference-guided creation, and follow-up revisions |
| Several related props or characters | [Asset Packs](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/asset-packs.md) | Individual model outputs coordinated around a shared brief |
| An environment | [Worlds](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/worlds.md) | A spatial scene with supported splat and collider files |
| Surface textures | [Materials](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/materials.md) | PBR maps rather than object geometry |
| A character that moves | [Animation](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/animation.md) | Animation outputs for eligible humanoid models |
| Files for a browser or 3D editor | [3D file formats](https://docs.mint.gg/guides/3d-file-formats.md) | Guidance on GLB, conversions, textures, and world runtimes |

## Text to 3D and image to 3D

Text-to-3D starts with a written brief. Describe one subject, its proportions, materials, style, and intended use. Image-to-3D uses reference images to guide the subject's appearance. A reference helps describe a model; it does not establish the exact shape of hidden surfaces or certify dimensions.

The [3D Model API](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/3d-models.md) supports prompt-based and image-guided generation. Its default automatic workflow continues through final generation. Choose Preview review explicitly when your integration needs an approval step.

[Modeler](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/modeler.md) is a separate creation and revision workflow for static models. Choose it when you want to describe changes to a delivered model from text or reference images. Editing arbitrary uploaded models is not supported. Modeler's outputs and limitations differ from the standard generation and animation workflows.

## Game assets and browser 3D

Use an [Asset Pack](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/asset-packs.md) for a coordinated prop set, such as market stalls, crates, barrels, signs, and lamps. Give every item the same visual direction and scale requirements. An individual generated model still needs to be inspected in your target project.

For Three.js and other browser projects, retrieve finished files through the [asset manifest](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/assets.md). Check model scale, texture loading, file size, and rendering performance in your own scene. [Optimization](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/3d-models.md#optimize), [retopology](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/3d-models.md#smart-topology), and [conversion](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/3d-models.md#convert) serve different purposes; choose the operation that addresses your actual delivery problem.

Mint does not guarantee that every generated result meets a particular game engine's performance budget or a store's submission requirements.

## Worlds and Gaussian splats

A World is an environment, while a 3D Model is an individual object or character. Use [World generation](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/worlds.md) for an explorable scene. World splats use different rendering and download paths from GLB object models. A World runtime may include a separate collider; it is not interchangeable with the visual splat.

Use the [mobile capture guide](https://docs.mint.gg/mobile-capture.md) when your starting point is a room, object, or person captured with the Mint mobile app.

## PBR materials and animation

[PBR Materials](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/materials.md) describe a surface using coordinated base color, normal, roughness, metalness, and height maps. They do not include a model's geometry. Download the maps and apply them in your target rendering workflow.

[Animation](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/animation.md) is a separate operation for eligible humanoid models and pack characters. A T-pose or A-pose in a Preview prepares the subject; it does not by itself create a skeleton or animation clips. Modeler delivers static GLBs and does not currently produce rigs or animation.

## Use Mint from Blender, an API, or an AI agent

* The [Blender add-on](https://docs.mint.gg/integrations/blender-addon.md) browses existing Mint assets and imports finished GLB models. World splats require the optional Kiri integration. The add-on does not start generation inside Blender.
* The [REST API](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/quickstart.md) starts asynchronous operations and returns asset references and downloadable files. Read the service guide for its access requirements.
* [Mint MCP](https://docs.mint.gg/integrations/mcp.md) connects supported AI clients to authenticated Mint workflows. Tool availability follows the current catalog.
* The [AI agent skill](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/ai-agent-skill.md) helps compatible coding agents follow the REST API workflow.

## Can Mint create 3D-printable or CAD models?

Some workflows support STL output, but a successful export does not certify that a model is printable. Check dimensions, manifold geometry, wall thickness, and your slicer's results before fabrication. A generated GLB or converted STL is not a guarantee of an editable CAD solid or manufacturing-ready geometry.

For exact supported operations, use the relevant service guide and the [public OpenAPI contract](https://api.mint.gg/openapi.json). For costs and availability, check [Credits and usage](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/credits-and-usage.md) and the current Mint interface.
