# 3D file formats: GLB, FBX, OBJ, STL, USDZ, and world splats

> Choose a Mint 3D download for Blender, browser scenes, animation, AR, or printing. Understand GLB models, converted files, PBR maps, and world runtimes.

**Access:** Public guide. Download availability depends on your access to the asset and the files successfully produced by its workflow.

Mint's downloadable 3D objects and spatial Worlds use different file types. Start with the returned asset or artifact manifest: it identifies the files actually available for that result. A requested format is not proof that its file is ready.

## Match the file to the job

| File or asset type | Typical use | Mint guidance |
| - | - | - |
| GLB | Object models in browser viewers and 3D editors | The primary model deliverable; inspect textures, scale, and geometry in your target application |
| FBX | Supported model conversion or animation interchange | Check the originating conversion or animation workflow; Modeler itself delivers static GLB |
| OBJ | Static geometry interchange | Preserve sidecar files when supplied by a supported conversion workflow; do not assume Modeler delivers OBJ |
| STL | Geometry for a fabrication workflow | STL does not carry materials or motion; printability needs a separate check |
| USDZ | Supported converted models for AR workflows | Check conversion availability for the model and test it on the intended device |
| PBR map ZIP | Surface materials | Texture maps without model geometry |
| PLY, SPZ, or RAD | Supported World splats | Environment representations that need an appropriate splat renderer |

See [standard model conversion](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/3d-models.md#convert), [Modeler delivery](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/modeler.md#what-you-receive), and [World retrieval](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/worlds.md#retrieve-the-world-and-its-files) for their distinct contracts. Do not assume every workflow produces every format in this table.

## GLB for Blender and browser projects

GLB is Mint's primary object-model delivery format. Modeler delivers a self-contained static GLB with embedded textures. A static model does not contain a rig or animation simply because its extension is `.glb`.

Use the [Mint Blender add-on](https://docs.mint.gg/integrations/blender-addon.md) to browse existing assets and import a finished GLB. For a Three.js project, retrieve the model's file URL through the [asset endpoints](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/assets.md) and use a glTF-compatible loader. Validate appearance, scale, texture loading, and performance in your application.

For character motion, follow the separate [animation workflow](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/animation.md) and retrieve the actual rig and clip artifacts it produces.

## Optimization, retopology, and conversion

These operations solve different problems:

* **Optimization** prepares a lighter delivery GLB from an eligible model. It does not promise a fixed size reduction.
* **Retopology** creates a topology-focused derivative. It is not the same as compressing a file.
* **Conversion** changes the delivery format of an eligible Mint model. It does not establish that the model meets a target engine's or printer's requirements.

For the standard 3D Model API, [optimization](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/3d-models.md#optimize) keeps the original GLB and exposes the optimized file separately. [Conversion](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/3d-models.md#convert) accepts an owned Mint model ID rather than an arbitrary external file URL. Modeler does not support editing arbitrary uploaded models. Its revision workflow starts from an owned successful Modeler result.

## World splats and colliders

A Gaussian splat represents a scene differently from a polygon object model. Do not load a World RAD file as though it were a GLB. The World API's artifact manifest includes the visual runtime URL and, when available, the matching collider runtime URL. Use the files together according to the [World guide](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/worlds.md).

The [Blender integration](https://docs.mint.gg/integrations/blender-addon.md) uses the optional Kiri Engine integration for World splats. Importing an object GLB uses a different path.

## PBR maps

A [Material](https://docs.mint.gg/developers/materials.md) provides coordinated maps such as base color, normal, roughness, metalness, and height. Download the map set and configure it in the target material system. The ZIP does not contain an object model, and generating a Material does not automatically apply it to an existing model.

## Before printing or shipping an asset

Check the actual delivered files in the intended application. For printing, inspect scale, watertightness, wall thickness, and slicer results. For a game or browser scene, check geometry cost, texture memory, transparency, loading, and animation compatibility. Supported export formats do not certify CAD accuracy, manufacturing readiness, or runtime performance.
